Bostonair Technical Training Ltd Launches New Online Training Course: Fatigue Risk Management Systems (FRMS)
EASA & UK CAA Part 147 approved organisation, Bostonair Technical Training Ltd, has introduced a new online training course - Fatigue Risk Management (FRMS). To shed light on the significance of FRM training, we spoke with Bostonair’s Online Training Manager, Alasdair Patrick, about the course and its crucial role in aviation safety. The Importance of Fatigue Risk Management Training
Fatigue Risk Management (FRM) is a systematic approach to addressing the risks associated with fatigue in the workplace. This involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating fatigue risks, as well as monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of these controls. In aviation, managing fatigue is particularly vital due to its potential impact on safety.Several factors contribute to fatigue in the aviation industry, such as long working hours, irregular shift patterns, and the necessity to maintain high levels of alertness and concentration for extended periods. To manage these risks effectively, aviation organizations employ a variety of strategies and tools, including:- Fatigue Risk Assessments (FRAs): FRAs identify and assess workplace fatigue risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. This typically involves questionnaires, surveys, and other tools to gather data on sleep patterns, work hours, workload, and stress levels.
- Fatigue Risk Management Systems (FRMS): An FRMS is a comprehensive approach to managing fatigue, encompassing the development of policies and procedures, data collection and analysis on fatigue-related incidents, and educational programs to raise fatigue awareness among employees.
- Scheduling Policies and Procedures: These are designed to optimize work schedules to minimize fatigue, ensuring staff have adequate rest periods.
- Fatigue Monitoring and Reporting Systems: These systems track fatigue levels and incidents, helping organizations respond proactively to potential risks.
