Who Needs Mandatory EWIS Training?

EWIS training is legally required for a wide range of aviation professionals working on or near aircraft electrical systems. The training must correspond to your role and level of involvement as outlined by AMC 20-22.

Based on group classification, the following roles require EWIS training:

  • Group 1 & 2: Licensed Avionics Engineers (B2), Certifying Staff, and Qualified Maintenance Staff performing wiring maintenance or inspection
  • Group 3: Staff performing wire maintenance on components
  • Group 4: Maintenance staff performing general maintenance not involving wires
  • Group 5: Engineering or inspection personnel working on in-service aircraft
  • Group 6: Staff working near EWIS installations
  • Group 7: Flight Deck Crew operating aircraft with EWIS considerations
  • Group 8: Cabin Crew Personnel interacting with EWIS-proximate areas
