We’re always looking for people to join our fantastic Line Maintenance team, but we know starting a new job can be scary, so we caught up with our Frankfurt Line Station manager – Alex, to find out more about him and working for Bostonair…
Hi Alex, it’s lovely to meet you. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi, my name is Alex, I’m from Greece, and I am the station manager for Bostonair’s Frankfurt Line Maintenance team. Before this, I was an aircraft engineer for 15 years.
Wow, 15 years is a long time! Why did you want to be an aircraft engineer?
When I was younger, I never thought that I would be an aircraft engineer until I met someone who inspired me to go to a university in Greece to complete a degree in aircraft technology. After that, I gained experience in the field and worked my way up, and I have loved it ever since.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
In the aviation industry, there are always challenges. Every day is different—whether with the aircraft, clients, or the team in general. I love these challenges; it means every day is different, and it never gets boring!
What do you like to do in your spare time when you’re not on duty?
When I’m not at work, I like to spend time with my family in Frankfurt. It’s such a vibrant city, and there’s always something to do here!
So, why did you choose Bostonair?
When I first started in aviation, I was working on a permanent contract in Greece, but I decided I wanted to work for contractors further afield in Europe. I’d heard lots of talk about Bostonair and how great they are to work for, with good rates compared to most other contracts. I applied for a role with Bostonair and instantly got a phone call from Nick Harrison – General Manager, with an offer to work for a large airline in Frankfurt. Contract of my life. I desperately wanted to work for Bostonair, and this contract was my foot in the door! I’ve been here since 2018 and never looked back!
Ah, so pre-COVID? We know how devastating the pandemic was for the aviation industry, but how did COVID-19 impact you in the workplace?
I was one of the lucky guys to be honest, I stayed with Bostonair in Frankfurt. But most of my colleagues who worked for different companies lost their jobs as there wasn’t the demand anymore for passenger aircraft upkeep. However, during the pandemic, Bostonair really built up its Part 145 department to cater to the growing demands of the cargo and freight industries and had signed contracts with large companies which kept us nice and busy!
If somebody was considering joining Bostonair, what advice would you give them?
Just do it, straight away. It was the best decision I have made, and I keep encouraging old colleagues to move to Bostonair whenever possible. Just apply. You don’t know where it will lead you…
