Course Description

This interactive online course provides essential knowledge and skills for personnel working with Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS).It ensures compliance in line with EASA regulations under Annex III to ED Decision 2008/007/R (AMC 20-22),. Designed to meet the training requirements of Part-21, Part-145, and Part-M, this course supports safer wiring maintenance and inspection practices across the aviation industry.

This course is an acceptable means of compliance with:

Who is EWIS Group 1 & 2 for?

EASA categorizes EWIS training into Target Groups (TG) based on job responsibilities:

  • TG1: Qualified staff performing EWIS maintenance, including avionics technicians, skilled workers, and B2 engineers. Training is focused on wiring systems maintenance tasks.
  • TG2: Qualified staff performing EWIS inspections, including inspectors and B2 engineers performing inspections. Training is focused on wiring system inspection procedures.

Important Note on Module G (Connective Device Repair):
This online course does NOT cover Module G, which involves hands-on training for connector repairs. To complete Module G, learners must download the Practical Task Sheet upon login. Full certification is granted only upon submission of a signed and stamped task sheet from a Part-145 organisation confirming competence.

For larger groups, an instructor-led Module G session can be arranged at client premises.

EWIS Group 1 & 2 Course Benefits

By completing this course, participants will:

  • Understand the fundamentals of EWIS design, safety and regulations.
  • Be able to apply best practices for wiring inspection and maintenance.
  • Be capable of recognising common wiring hazards and know how to mitigate these.
  • Improve their compliance with EASA & UK CAA requirements for continued airworthiness.
  • Be able to strengthen safety culture within the workplace and reduce electrical-related incidents in the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

EWIS (Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems) training is required for aviation professionals who work with or around aircraft wiring systems. This includes maintenance personnel, avionics technicians, inspectors, B2 engineers, CAMO staff, and quality/compliance managers.

Group 1 (TG1) is for qualified staff providing EWIS maintenance, such as avionics technicians, skilled workers, and B1 engineers. The training focuses on wiring systems maintenance.

Group 1 (TG2) is for qualified staff providing EWIS inspections, such as inspectors and B2 engineers. The training focuses on inspection.

Our course covers both elements, providing a fully rounded overview of EWIS 1 & 2 concepts.

Yes, under EASA and UK CAA regulations EWIS Group 1 & 2 training is mandatory for maintenance and inspection staff working on aircraft wiring.

Yes, this course is fully compliant with EASA AMC 20-22.

Continuation training is typically required every 2 years in line with regulatory and company policy.

1. Human Factors, Fuel Tank Safety and EWIS training lasts 2 years. If an initial certificate is held and the training is being completed for the two-year renewal then the Continuation Courses are sufficient.
(NOTE: Some organisations require a full continuation of training so if there is a large enough gap between certificates expiring and being renewed, the initial training may be needed again. This can differ based on each individual Company’s Quality Procedures.)

1. EWIS TG1&2 – Defined as being for “Qualified staff performing EWIS maintenance” & “Qualified staff performing maintenance inspections on EWIS.”
(E.g. B2 Engineers, Electrical Engineers/Inspectors, Avionic Engineer/Inspectors)
NOTE: Some organisations require B1 engineers who are signing-off aircraft to be TG1&2 trained

2. EWIS TG4&5 – Defined as being for “Qualified staff performing general maintenance/inspections not involving wire maintenance (LRU change is not considered wire maintenance)” & “Qualified staff performing other engineering or planning work on in-service aeroplane”
(E.g. A Licenced Engineers, B1 Licenced Engineers, Sheet Metal Workers (SMW), Mechanics)

3. EWIS TG6 – Defined as being for “Other service staff with duties in proximity to electrical wiring interconnection systems”
(E.g. (but not limited to): Aeroplane cleaners, cargo loaders, re-fuelling staff, lavatory servicing personnel, de-icing personnel, push back personnel, etc.)

4. EWIS TG7 – Defined as being for “Flight Deck Crew”

5. EWIS TG8 – Defined as being for “Cabin Crew”
