Course Description

This online training provides essential knowledge for personnel handling Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS), ensuring compliance in line with EASA regulations under Annex III to ED Decision 2008/007/R (AMC 20-22).

This course meets the training requirements of Part-21, Part-145, and Part-M, helping improve wiring awareness and safety across the aviation industry.

The course serves as an acceptable means of compliance with:
  • 21.A.145 and 21.A.245 of Part-21
  • 145.A.30 and 145.A.35 of Part-145
  • M.A.706 of Part-M

Who Should Take This Course?

EASA categorizes EWIS training into Target Groups (TG) based on job roles and responsibilities:

  • TG4: Qualified staff performing general maintenance on aircraft that may require removal/reconnection of EWIS components. This includes B1 engineers, mechanical technicians, and airframe/engine maintenance staff. Training focuses on safe handling, removal, and reconnection of wiring components
  • TG5: Qualified staff performing other maintenance tasks that could involve EWIS but do not directly work on wiring systems. This includes non-avionics personnel such as painters, structures technicians, cargo system mechanics, and fuel tank specialists. Training focuses on awareness of EWIS safety precautions and damage prevention.

By completing this course, participants will:

✅ Understand EWIS safety requirements and best practices
✅ Recognise wiring components and their function in aircraft systems
✅ Follow safe handling procedures for wiring during maintenance tasks
✅ Identify and prevent potential EWIS damage risks

(E.g. B2 Engineers, Electrical Engineers/Inspectors, Avionic Engineer/Inspectors)
NOTE: Some organisations require B1 engineers who are signing-off aircraft to be TG1&2 trained

2. EWIS TG4&5 – Defined as being for “Qualified staff performing general maintenance/inspections not involving wire maintenance (LRU change is not considered wire maintenance)” & “Qualified staff performing other engineering or planning work on in-service aeroplane”
(E.g. A Licenced Engineers, B1 Licenced Engineers, Sheet Metal Workers (SMW), Mechanics)

3. EWIS TG6 – Defined as being for “Other service staff with duties in proximity to electrical wiring interconnection systems”
(E.g. (but not limited to): Aeroplane cleaners, cargo loaders, re-fuelling staff, lavatory servicing personnel, de-icing personnel, push back personnel, etc.)

1. Human Factors, Fuel Tank Safety and EWIS training lasts 2 years. If an initial certificate is held and the training is being completed for the two-year renewal then the Continuation Courses are sufficient.
(NOTE: Some organisations require a full continuation of training so if there is a large enough gap between certificates expiring and being renewed, the initial training may be needed again. This can differ based on each individual Company’s Quality Procedures.)
